Why Your Support at Community Events Matters — Now More Than Ever
By Trish Hamilton

At Gentle Path Counselling Services, we know how much effort goes into planning a community event. The late nights, the volunteer hours, the endless to-do lists, and the uncertainty of turnout — it’s a labour of love. And truthfully, sometimes the return doesn’t match the effort. But we keep doing it. Why? Because we believe in the power of connection, generosity, and showing up for one another.

Events aren’t just about raising funds — they’re about raising hope. They’re a way for our community to come together, have fun, and support causes that make Saint John a better place for everyone. They’re also a great opportunity for supporters to give and receive. Whether it’s through silent auctions, prize draws, or just being part of something meaningful, non-profit events offer a win-win: you make a difference and walk away with a little something in return.

Gentle Path

Our events wouldn’t be possible without the generous sponsors who donate prizes, food, venues, and their time. These local businesses and individuals are the quiet champions of our community, and we are endlessly grateful for them. Every donation, no matter how small, is a building block toward something greater.

The reality is, we need your support more than ever. Donations are down. Grant funding is shrinking. But the need for mental health services continues to grow — rapidly. At Gentle Path, we’re seeing more clients, more complex issues, and a greater need for subsidized services than ever before. We know that life is expensive, and it can feel like there’s not enough to go around. But if every person gave just a little — or chose to attend an event and show their support — we could close the growing gap in services.

So please, the next time you see a fundraiser, a ticket raffle, a community market or an Afternoon Tea (hint, hint), know that your presence means the world. It’s not just about dollars — it’s about heart. And when a community comes together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Thank you for believing in us, and for believing in a better tomorrow for Saint John.

With gratitude,
Trish Hamilton
